The Library (TheLastSongbird's poems)
This is a poem I wrote randomly late one night. It just flowed out of me and it was like it wouldn't let me go to sleep until I'd written it... Please tell me what you think ^^
Thanks to Iridescent_Revival_<3 for requesting I post this
Homecoming
Take away my every thought
Destroy all memory
Kill all feeling
Take my soul and simply hold me
Take my life and let me sleep.
From light to dark
To peaceful nothing
Hold my hand, stand
by me, silent,
still as moonlight beckons softly...
Come, my child,
Come home to me...
Let me sleep, my wings are weak
I feel no hope,
no faith,
no light
in deep dark night,
no strength for flight.
Just hold me...
Let me sleep

Re: The Library (TheLastSongbird's poems)
Since I'm hoping to write much more poetry, I thought I may as well put it all together in one thread ^^ This is my latest one...
Spiritu
Who are you?
I’ve told you my name many times,
but you’ve never heard it.
I’m the reflection in the mirror.
The one that isn’t your own.
Gold dust beckoned from the Bridge of Light
breaking through the glass.
I am in the Autumn sunshine.
It blinds,
it hides.
Do you wish to know
why I’m hiding?
Skeletons lay forlorn. Where you walked,
they returned to the sky, the sun.
I’ll tell you, though you never hear.
To save you from the insanity.
The one you’d be struck by.
No knowledge
or understanding.
Poor, mad girl. She spoke to the air
and cried for Beltane.
But how can I save you,
if you never listen?
Breathe...
***********Close your eyes.
********************************Close your ears.
*******************************************************Open your heart...
"Now can you see me?"

Still Life
The Lie
Life is unfair. Everything you’ve ever wanted has escaped you.
What did you do to deserve the hatred of the world?
Here, only perfection succeeds. Only perfection is loved.
Ninety-nine percent of the time, one hundred percent perfection is chosen.
Your flaws betrayed you – the anomaly. It doesn’t add up. If nobody’s perfect,
Then let the dark side of the sun shine for once, right now. Flick the switch.
You don’t see it happening. You expected as much.
White Noise
In between one and the other, I’ve found my place.
Come and sit on the fence with me. You won’t get hurt here.
But, through the distortion, you won’t get heard either.
The Truth
Beauty’s in the breaking of it all, in the bleakest of times,
in the eye of the beholder, in your eyes, in the bipolar disorder
that is this life of finding pleasure in the paranoia and
loathing the love when it’s gone. Within these lies
the truth. The one we can’t bear to face. It’s realised then
slumps in the back seat shadows of your mind.
The world doesn’t make you, it’s what you make of it. You are what makes the world.
Beauty’s in the hands that hold the key to the truth. What next?

Fragile
Delicate, gentle,
Yet stronger than most.
Suspended, frozen,
Ice blooms.
You don’t see me
Longing for light.
Thawing ice caresses cold petals...
Tears.
My mission is certain.
I’ll soon be one
With Earth again.
Live to wither, long to see the sun.
But I will live again.
I am
Fragile
Yet stronger than most.

Re: The Library (TheLastSongbird's poems)
Thankyou, Mother
Goodbye. You release your embrace.
Earth and skies darken to ice
Without you. Don’t leave.
I never thanked you. I was free,
A child of the Universe. I could embrace
The stars. You never strayed.
Now and again, thoughts would rise,
Become a place where dreams aren’t lies;
You were patient. I was ungrateful
For all you allowed. All the hateful,
Shameful thoughts of life without limits or care.
Still you were there.
Maybe if we’d thanked, forgotten our pride,
You wouldn’t have left us. Wouldn’t have died.
Love won't live here
Stagnant night, shadows and starlight,
Thick with thundering silence, the terror
Of awe. Inescapable. It’s endless.
We are resigned to resisting the light.
Demons endlessly dancing their shadow-dance,
Spirits endlessly shivering the spine.
Fingers touch, swift turn. “No turning back.
Follow me, follow me.” Blinded. No choice,
No sight, no light, only shadow.
Love’s not here. How could it live
Here, where humanity lives to hate
In stagnant night? Only shadows. No starlight.

Re: The Library (TheLastSongbird's poems)
Paranoia
The night has never known such malice.
Darkness with her deadly shroud drowns the land.
Blazing lights,
Glimmering golden through the black,
Dance with hidden demons in the dark.
Breaths quicken,
My heart beats on borrowed time,
As eyes burn like ice into my neck.
Around me, all things are united, confused,
Until I see sound,
Feel shadows.
Shivering in my world of silence and hopelessness,
Glancing behind me,
Forsaken in the night,
I see merely the shadows;
They whisper,
Taunt me in a twisted tongue unknown.
Always in wait...
the all-consuming Darkness.
The path of shifting silhouettes
Pulls me into the blackness,
Each quivering breath my last
quiet comfort.

Little sister
Little sister
It’s the place of humans to question their place
To wonder where we came from and how
And what we must do
And how we must do it
And when – when is the right time?
And why does there seem to be no time
For anything?
Especially when it matters most.
We move so slowly yet lightyears at a time
For it is what’s expected.
We see what we expect to see
We feel what we expect to feel
And learn what we are expected to know
When really, none of it matters.
Together, we will jump the life to come.
Maybe then I can be closer to you
And tell you never
Never ever
To question your importance to the world
Every day
So you won’t feel the need to believe otherwise.
Love is wasted on the heartless
Don’t waste your precious love on them.
Next time someone laughs at you
Because you believe something they don’t
Shout to the world that you don’t care what it thinks.
Sometimes, not caring is the right thing
It’s just knowing the whens and wheres and whys.
You might get it wrong sometimes
But everyone does.
Nobody knows everything.
When someone thinks they do
They know less than the ones who accept
That this world, this life
Is never to be ‘made sense’ of
For it is nonsense.
Why did we fall to land here
Call this our home
Then start wars on our mother’s heart
Slowly killing her with our silent disease?
Hate is an infection, quickly spread
Avoid it when you can
And when you can’t
That’s when I’ll be there
For you
No matter the distance
No matter the time
No matter the reason
You find yourself struck down
By what you spend a lifetime
Longing to escape.
Little sister, you are strong
No matter what your darkest thoughts tell you
Turn around
Stand your ground
And fight them
To the death.
You must not change.
You must not forget
Who you are.
We are in this Army
Together.
No-one and nothing
Can stop us from advancing
Onwards and onwards
Till time stops
And we’ve won.
And we will win.
We have the unbreakable force
On our side.
You know in your heart
What it is.

Re: The Library (TheLastSongbird's poems)
Thankyou Mimi! I'm really pleased with how I've improved since I started doing creative writing at uni. I'm surprised how much it shows that I've had so much help with my writing and done so much work on it. It really makes the course feel worth it. Not that it doesn't anyway

Re: The Library (TheLastSongbird's poems)
This is a poem I wrote in a free-writing session at uni today that I've just edited a bit. I love how it turned out. In fact, I might even name my poetry thread after it
The Library
My life is pursuing the perfect escapism
Obviously I’ve not captured it yet
I wonder where it’s taking asylum
Hiding from those who would tear it apart
Frantic grasps for a single scrap.
The library...
Wouldn’t that be the place?
Walls of dreams touching
The mind’s atmosphere...
Yes, you can imagine
The soul of Wanderlust
Lingering in the air between the pages
In the ink of each full stop
Promising the end will never come
That we are immortal
Always in spirit
As long as we believe...
We can keep turning pages
Never see the last word
Never breathe a sigh or say
“Alright, it’s time for me to sleep.”
If there wasn’t an end
We would never dream
Then what would become of the library?
Just a knot-hole in the Universe Tree
For the woodlouse, the spider
Silent creatures without an aim
The phantoms of the earth
The Library
My life is pursuing the perfect escapism
Obviously I’ve not captured it yet
I wonder where it’s taking asylum
