Re: Estonia?
No, I didn't know about Estonia before Kerli...should I be ashamed?
Nobody knows where it's at
Oh well, I know about it now, and I'm going to visit Estonia at some point, because it looks extraordinarily beautiful and magical. Does that make up for it? xD

Re: Estonia?
If you want to know something about Estonian history you should read Sofi Oksanen's book Purge. it is farm from boring history novel and it isn't just a random book, it has won several international awards. I don't about you but I really like this book!
Can't wait to see the movie too!
Sofi Oksanen’s bestselling novel Purge is a chilling drama of two generations of women, set in wartime 1940’s Estonia during the Soviet occupation, and in the same country in the 90’s as it grapples with the realities of a new Europe. Narrated through a polyphonic choir of individual voices, Purge tells the suspenseful and dramatic story of Aliide Truu, an old Estonian woman whose hands are soiled with the crimes she committed during the Soviet era, and Zara, a young trafficking victim who in the present has managed to escape and has come to seek shelter at Aliide’s countryside home. As the two women start to approach each other and the links between them are revealed, a tragic and complex family drama of rivalry, lust, and loss that plays out during the worst years of the Soviet occupation of Estonia unfolds. In this way, Purge becomes an investigation into the cost of survival in a repressive system.
Here's some reviews:
A sheer masterpiece… A marvel… I hope that everyone in the world who knows how to read, reads Purge.
— Nancy Huston, author of Fault Lines (2010)
Sofi Oksanen has become a literary phenomenon...Purge is a flawed, brilliant piece of work that does not easily relinquish its grip on reader's imagination.
— The Times (UK) (2010)

Re: Estonia?
I did knew of estonia before kerli. It's like it was meant to be.
They were teaching some of the world wars and then I heard ''estonia''.
I don't know why, but I think just the name is beautiful and powerful so I said: that place & NY are my go to places before I die.

Yes it is! The book is also a bit sad... normal life in Estonia wasn't really so depressing But life in soviet union wasn't always so easy.
You should check this out, it may sound a bit weird now but it was true.
You couldn't watch popular TV shows like Dallas or MacGywer because they were forbidden in Soviet Union. Actually there were a lot of things which were forbidden... For example there were no fruits in stores!?
Realtives from finland used to send us music, magazines, jeans, plastic bags, stockings, make-up and stuff. You were so cool when you had some stuff from "west"

Re: Estonia?
I knew about it because my geography teacher touched our balls to learn the ubication of every country of this world! I've always known that it is: "Estonia, Letonia (Latvia), Lituania (Lithuania)" from north to south xD That's the way to remember the ubication of this three countries with a similar pronunciation (in spanish they has a similar pronunciation)

Re: Estonia?
I knew about the Baltic States as a whole from American History but no not the specific country until I heard about Kerli. We'll probably learn more about it in European History.

Re: Estonia?
I did! I paid attention in geography. I'm mortified though, I found out my mom didn't know about it. She asked where it was and I said Baltic states and she didn't know what I meant.
