I'm really not certain what on earth my heritage is.

On my mom's side, there's English, Scottish, and Scott's Irish. That's all I know. There's only one problem. I don't have many physical features of the above nationalities. Lol.

I don't know what my dad's side is, other than our name is English.

I've been told I look Romanian. A lot. Haha. My old headmistress said she's always thought I had Slavic in me.

In conclusion, I don't really know. Haha.

Part of why I was so excited to go to the Highland Games was because they had "Clan tents" for most of the Scottish Clans so that you can learn a bit about your family history. I went up to the tents that I recognised as part of my ancestry and told them the information I already know and asked if they'd be able to help me figure more out but most just asked where my parents are.

I did, however, learn a LOT about a direct ancestor of mine (John MacKay) who first moved to Nova Scotia and then to New Zealand as part of Norman McLeod's Calvinist community at the Waipu Museum which was quite amazing Smile

Mostly Irish and German, with a dash of English, Polish & Scottish
At least I think it is Polish...not sure, I am certain on English & Scottish though. Would have to ask my father because he is the one doing an ongoing search on our ancestors and family tree.

One thing though, I sure have a hell of a lot of relatives in Canada my father found out, so many Furlong's, my goodness. I didnt know I had a lot until my father told me. Big big Family, the Furlongs. Hooboy. He's been doing this family search since he was a teenager.

I'm not the only one with welsh in me xD

I'm actually related to the famous Captain James Cook who set sail the first fleet to Australia (A big history moment) And he orginated from Great Britain so that is a start on my heritage research Razz And somewhere there is an Andrews family crest, lol this is rather exciting.

I found the Busfield crest when I was 11. Can't remember where, though :S I just remember there were 3 upside down Vs on it which was supposed to mean something... I think I'll just stick to the Clan crests Razz

Ahh James Cook... took all the glory from Abel Tasman who'd originally been the first European to have discovered New Zealand... I recently saw a sign quoting Cook saying something like "I named it the Bay of Islands due to the many islands dotted along the shore". I found it funny, thinking "hmmm is that a direct quote from the great James Cook!? Oh how eye-openingly life-changing..."

I choose to ignore my Englishy parts of the family and embrace my Celtic roots Very Happy I asked the captain of the cruise if he was originally kiwi and he said "I'm as kiwi as you can get: 5th generation!!" I laughed at him and said "Ha! I'm 7th generation. Waipu settlement. Beat that!" I'm quite proud to be a direct descendent of one of the first European settlements in New Zealand.

That's very cool that your families been there that long, the one side of my family came to the U.S. in the 1600s, it is also through that side that I'm related to Matt Damon (although it's ridiculously distance)
