I flip the switch on
My vanity lights up
See his face in the mirror
I begin to choke up..
Ask me where I went wrong
Broke my promise to you
Said id never be them
Look how much that I grew
The reflection of the boy
That I used to be
Stares back at this man
Seems so worried for me
He begins to tell a story
From a long time ago
When things were more simple
Flowers grew in meadows
Long ago made a vow
As he played in the yard
Wrote it down to remember
Sent it on a postcard
Said he'd never be owned
By the glits and the glam
Unlike all my elders
I would not be a sham
Growing old and more lonely
Seems I let people in
Tried to be someone else
I just tried to fit in..
The parties, and ego
They took over my brain
The lights and the crowd
Have made me so vain
But, this morning woke up
With a letter from you
It's then that I realized
I was being untrue
I stare back at your face
As I rip the mask off
Feel the love in my heart
Time for life to blast off
Little boy in the mirror
For us I will prey
My home is the playground
Let's begin a new day!
