Alright guys, so this is pretty easy. Although it can be frustrating since the strings tend to tangle up with eachother while braiding. So firstly, you'll need......HEMP! Or your choice of craft-worthy string or cord. You'll need at least 3 yards, usually. I do wind up cutting off like a yard or two of excess every time, but I'd rather have too much than not enough. You'll need 3 cords.

Headdress#1 Picnik11

Then, we'll take the 3 cords and knot them, allotting about 5 inches of excess to hang off from the knot. Next, feel free to slip on a large bead or something to use as a catch. We'll tie the other end into a loop later to fasten over this bead. Once the bead is in place, knot the excess cords on the other side of it to lock it in place. Now we'll count about 6 inches away from the inner knot, and then make another knot.

Now we start braiding. You'll need to choose a central cord. This one will stay stationary, like a drone. The other two will braid around it. First, take the right side cord, and bring it across the central cord, next take the left side cord, and lead it over the right side cord, behind the central one, and then lead it out through the right side cord's loop. If you're repeating this cycle incorrectly, the cord will start to spiral. (Confusing, I know, but bare with me) Once you've done this, pull tightly to set the knot. Next, reverse this process, starting with left over central, and bringing the right behind and then out. Once you've set 2 knots into place, repeat the step of the braid, but leave the loops sticking out by not completely setting the knot, and instead, starting a new knot to set the loose one behind it. I'm sorry, I forgot to photograph this portion, so I hope you guys can figure it out.

Now repeat the cycle of knot, knot, loop 5 more times, and then knot twice more, and lock this in with the simple knot we started the tutorial with. Now it's time to apply what you have so far to your head to see how far across the forehead needs to be, so you'll know where to tie the next knot. Repeat the process we just covered once more and finish the creation with a knotted loop of sorts. Mine usually turn out messy, so I'd recommend experimenting w this loop tying. Now it's time to wear your creation to figure out where you'd like the feathers. I stuff them into the loops before I hot glue them in, to get an idea as to what sort of look I'm going for.

It is now time
to get out your hot glue gun (or adhesives of preference) & get to setting these feathers into place. Mine wound up taking on a laurel wreath, sort of Roman look. I also glued light blue sequins to mine for extra pizazz. (Yes, I just said pizazz) Then, I finished the look by hot gluing a bee pendant (got it from hobby lobby for like 2 or 3 $) to the edge of the piece, to hide the ugly/raw feather bases, which turned out very much to my liking. ^-^

So there you have it! A recipe for a braided headdress. Super easy, super cheap, and pretty much flexible to any fancy you might have stylistically. Hope you guys enjoyed the tutorial and can have some fun with this basic design! Cheers mates! ^-^

Wolfeh! Overall it looks so simple, yet intricate and your braiding skills are superb here. I'm really digging that bee charm, sets it off and those sequins were a great idea! Another great job on your end plus you look great in the pics.

Haha, oh, I will! It'll be done sometime today for sure, boy.
Oh and no problem- You know I'm just speaking the truth.

Also, yeahhh, burning myself with a hot glue gun, flat iron or just in general is never pleasant and I curse like mad, haha.

Lullll, you guys got me giggling.

I learned from an experienced hemp weaver, that you spray perfume on every hemp piece you make. He used an essential oil perfume on some things he made for me and they still smell nice.
