How do you afford college?

As for me I go to a community college and I'm going to transfer after I finish my general education.
I'm a history major and I'm thinking of specializing in religious history.
I get full financial aid.

we call it university here. and im starting uni in september.. and im not getting any aid which sucks. people think that if i come from a european country i can afford it.. well NO i cant. ill have to take a loan which i will be paying back for the rest of my life and ill probably end up living in a womens refuge or somewhere just to have a roof over my head.

my dream is university but in Poland more is for free..only in my city I don't have any chance because study here people from all Poland and also from others countries

I end high school and I'm on high technical school..European Union pay from my education...

That's so lame You could try applying for a bunch of scholarships.

yeah i will still try but basically i was told i can't because they expect me to have the money :S as i am a 'foreign student' (im from estonia but ive been living in england for almost 3 years now..)

yeah ive already been accepted as well im gonna do theatre practise: creative producing

so ill be the one writing, directing and getting shows on the stage

That sounds so awesome! I would love to do that but I'm not creative haha . That sounds like it will be so much fun.

That's so cool that you get to do what you want. I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I could remember but everyone kept telling me I couldn't make enough money so I decided I would find something else. Then right after I graduated High School I said "fuck it, I'm going to do whatever the hell I want" and that's why I'm majoring in history-so I can teach it! It's an amazing feeling to do what you want!

in the end - its not alll about money! i know im gonna be in a very risky field & i might never get a proper job. but im willing to take the risk.

It's worth it if that's what you really want to do. I'd rather have fun with my job, and not make a lot of money than hate my job and make lots of money. I wouldn't want to waste my life doing something I hate. Good for you for taking a risk. I hope it all works out for you

I've been into massage therapy for 7 months. I both love and hate it. There are still somethings that im skeptical in but it seems Kerli has a strong belief in it so im gonna try. This college i am completely paying myself, so im in a similar position mimi. I think ill have to take some student loans seeing that i lost my job. I graduate in october of this year but after this i don't think im done. I want to get my masters in nutrition, herbology, and maybe iridology and then get my masters in art, then maybe become a vet for personal reasons i don't want to work in a veterinarian office. hmmm and then travel and blah blah blah

I was, but I graduated. I majored in Biology. I really, really want to go back to school for art/design, though. It's what I should have done in the first place but I was too scared. :/ And now since I'll be going back for a second degree I have no way to pay for it because.. well.. kind of a long story. I feel like I screwed over my future because of my fear. Soo... do what you want to do even if people think you're crazy. It's so worth it.

i took my course online.....................

College is really expensive in the U.S. I got lucky and was able to get full financial aid and the bog waiver, but not everybody can get it. I've taken a couple of online classes, but I prefer actually going to class. It's just too hard for me to learn without being able to talk to my prof. face to face. But online classes are just as expensive.

yeah, college is for sure not free in canada or usa.

I think the college in Norway is free, like everything else is free.. (not literally)
I hope I'll get into a good college so I can study in Berlin for a few years. Hopefully I'll have the money. I have already started to save money

I think I want to take theory classes, I don't know what they're called in english, but in norwegian we call it "studiespesialisering" and "allmenn".

Then you guy's are lucky that college is free

college don't exist in Italy, but the guys can go to the university.

5 + 2 with specialistic
and here the university is not cheap XD


but I don't attend to the university cuz I don't care bout it.

Yes it costs money, a lot of money! thousands of dollars per semester even if you go to a community college. If you are financially disadvantaged you can get help from the government. But it's so unfortunate isn't it? I had to take out loans to pay for mine.

I am in my fifth year of college, working on a double major in psychology and sociology in the US. I have had to go part time, which is why I can't finish in 4 years, which is the norm here. I still have one more year to go after this semester. I've just been going part-time and paying whatever I can as I go. Had to get loans for the first time this year. :'(

this is really unfair... we have many college for free... sometimes politic US is stupid

Yes, I absolutely agree, very stupid and unfair....and I'm from the US!!!

I agree! Stupid and Unfair it is! I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Human Diversity. I have two more classes to go after this semester, and I'm done! It's taken me about six years because I had to do a little at a time. I am at a four year college and already have 30,000 dollars in loans:( Next will be grad school, cas I really wanna be a therapist next. So I'm sure it will be a $600 a month loan payment! But, I love my job so I guess it will be worth it!

^ I am in the same boat, taking me 6 years too. And I'm also wanting to be a counselor/therapist! Yay psyc majors!

I want to attend uni in Germany somewhere or anywhere in Europe basically.
But I have no idea what I would study yet

I'm at college/university right now. I go to Purdue University. Currently I'm majoring in Biological and Food Process Engineering but I absolutely hate it. Trying not to be too dramatic but if I have to take fluid mechanics again (dropped out last semester) I will kill myself. ABE majors have to take it with ChemE and they are the most stuck up, egotistic group of people I've ever meet. They thought all ABEs were stupid and a joke of an engineering career. But ABE is consistently ranked in the top 3 programs while ChemE hasn't made top 10 in a long time...
At 18, I don't think may people are prepared to make the decision of what they want to major in. If I had to choose right know I'd much rather be studying Accounting.

Because I'm out of state Purdue is very expensive, but (and I always feel so spoiled when I say this) my parents one a very successful business so they pay for everything.
