Emilie Autumn inspired necklace (making of)

One day I was looking at some pictures of EA, and I noticed she has a bleeding heart in some form or another in her outfit, so an idea for a necklace came to me...

I took a big lump of white polymer clay and shaped it like a heart, and stuck some jewelry pins in it.


After baking it, I painted it with acrylic paint. I used red, black and a little bit of yellow. I painted it so that it would look more 3-dimensional and maybe even a bit disgusting :3 The glossy varnish really makes it look icky.


Next, I attached some chains and red beads to make it bleed. The smaller beads are glass, the big one is plastic.


And then I thought: "it's rather eye-catching like this. A little too much to my liking". Plus, I wanted to make it even more original. So I cut some old white cotton sheet into strips and tied it around the heart. Tried to fix a bleeding heart, so to speak. And the little bow is cute!


And then I realized: "the bandages look a bit too clean to be around a bleeding heart! Oh hey, I have some red fabric color I bought for my Halloween dress..."


I used a thin red satin ribbon to test how it looks around my neck. It's kinda big, but it's nice nonetheless :3

PinkBarrierLou, you'll never know if you won't try! Don't worry about how it will turn out, just have fun making things, that's how I make jewelry (and drawings, cooking, other handcrafts...). I just get an idea in my head and it never turns out as I thought, lol :)

Beffy, I always write down ideas and draw them sometimes, and I'm constantly saving images to my computer when I see something inspirational, so I can look at them later if I don't have time or enough materials to make what I want at the time :)

I once made something very similar, and yes, after seeing it on Emilie Autumn! It was actually a much simpler brooch, and it needs a bit fixing. I wonder where I've put it... But this necklace is gorgeous!
